New SPS Technologies NYTEMP® Fasteners Can Take the Heat

Self-Locking Fasteners Withstand Temperatures Up to 450°F (232°C) While Maintaining Torque and Clamp Load Stability

JENKINTOWN, PA - SPS Technologies, an official licensee of the NYTEMP® orange-colored self-locking patch material developed by the Nylok Corp., offers a range of aerospace fasteners featuring the advanced, high-temperature, non-metallic locking element. SPS NYTEMP self-locking fasteners break through the 250°F maximum associated with traditional self-locking materials and allow multiple cycle reuse capabilities in areas never before possible.

The NYTEMP self-locking patch is available on various SPS® nuts, screws, bolts, studs and specials.

Because they can maintain torque and clamp load stability in temperatures up to 450°F (232°C), SPS NYTEMP self-locking nuts and bolts are ideal for assembly applications in aerospace, as well as use in automotive, appliances, small engines and other areas where heat of this magnitude is encountered.

According to SPS, the NYTEMP fasteners are less costly than other self-locking parts because they do not require any drilling or milling, and are not affected by water, anti-freeze, gasoline, motor oil, diesel oil, various kerosene-based materials, hydraulic fluids or similar materials.

Other features of SPS NYTEMP fasteners include the industry’s highest reusability factor – 15 cycles; low out-gassing that meets NASA requirements; and the elimination of the need for metal removal that can reduce fastener strength and performance.

The NYTEMP locking element is made of a high temperature-resistant polymer element that is applied as an orange-colored patch to internally or externally threaded parts. The patch meets the torque and vibration requirements of MIL-STD-1312 #7 and is compatible with aerospace and defense fastener alloys such as A286, INCO®718 and CRES300 Series. It also meets and exceeds such major government and industry specifications as IFI-124, IFI-524, IFI-155 and IFI-555; military MIL-DTL-18240F and MIL-QPL-18240; NASA SP-R-0022A and Detroit Diesel TES-113.
