SPS Technologies Offers TITAN™ Titanium Fasteners with 160 & 180 ksi Tensile Strength

JENKINTOWN, PA - SPS Technologies, a leading manufacturer of high-strength fasteners since 1903, offers a line of fasteners manufactured from a specially processed titanium alloy. This newly modified alloy designated TITAN™ overcomes the fastener size and strength limitations associated with traditional titanium alloys allowing users to capitalize on the lightweight advantages of titanium without compromising strength.

Although some traditional titanium alloys like Ti-6Al 41-4V were acceptable for fastener manufacturing, their size was limited to ¾” diameter. Larger parts failed to meet the strength requirements of aerospace bolt specifications due to hardenability limitations.

SPS Titan 160 fasteners offer 160-ksi tensile and 95-ksi shear strength while exhibiting excellent fatigue performance. TITAN 160 bolts meet the mechanical property requirements in existing aerospace titanium bolt specifications for sizes ranging from ¾” to 1½” diameters. Normally, titanium fasteners are replaced by heavier CRES alloy fasteners in this size range.

SPS TITAN 180 fasteners offer 180-ksi tensile and 108-shear strength. This matches the properties of alloy steel and CRES alloy fasteners with a 40% weight savings. TITAN 180 alloy bolts are available in diameters up to 1”.

Bolts and nuts in a variety of configurations can be manufactured from both TITAN 160 and 180 alloys.
